Shi Tzu’s and cataract surgery – anyone have this done and know the cost?

I have a shi tzu (sorry spelling is wrong) and she has really bad clouds in one eye and the other one is getting cloudy too- I was wondering if anyone has ever had to have a Cataract Surgery done on a dog and what they paid their Vet for this Surgery ?
Please let me know if anyone knows this — please no smart remarks, or anything stupid for answers I love this dog and do not want her to loose her sight and do not want to put her down either – she is still young and has plenty of life left in her. She is part of my family, I have her and her brother, they are twins.

Anyone know of a GREAT Toy Dog Optamologist?

I have a soon to be eight year old Shih-Tzu dog. She has Cataracts in both he eyes and has problems with vision. Does anyone know of an EXCELLENT Veterinarian Optamologist? I love my dog and want her to be better. Also, does anyone know the choice of procedures that they perform for this and how much does it usually cost? My vet doesn’t do cataracts and the place she referred me to no longer does this surgery on small dogs. I live in Massachusetts and the closet referral I have gotten yet is in New York. Please help!!!

Do you know of an insurance plan that covers……?

Does anyone know of any kind of insurance that pays for multi-focal lens after cataract surgery?

Person all ready has blue cross/blue shield part a and b federal and medicare.

How do I know which lens was used in cataract surgery?

I recently had an eye surgery done to remedy the traumatic cataract that developed due to a squash ball injury. Before the surgery the clinic asked me to choose from a range of lenses from uni focal/multifocal/brands etc., which varied in cost by 300%. I chose a uni focal Alcon lens on the advise of some friends. The surgery was carried out 2 weeks back and I am generally satisfied with the results. But is there a way in which I can re-confirm which lens was used? This will put my mind at ease about the clinic as I suspect the wide range of prices quoted for various lenses may be a gimmick.
Doc, many thanks!! Your answer is completely professional & provides lots more helpful information. I am grateful for it. And, I have just purchased the eye guard which I used last night at squash!! Thanks

Does anyone know the cost of surgery to remove cataract in dogs?

My 4 year old boxer is developing cataracts in both eyes. She is to young to let her go blind but I heard the procedure is extremely costly. Can anyone give a ball park figure?
I got kids to feed too. Can’t sell everythink for the dog. Love her to death and we are gonna provide the best we can for her but Im on fixed income. Sorry if you think Im a bad guy now.

I’ve been advised to undergo cataract removal surgery: anyone you know had this done? What’s your counsel?

Had an eye exam today for new glasses prescription; and was advised that I had advanced cataracts, the optometrist telling me that though there was no urgency nor was it essential, but that I would be able to see better if the procedure was performed: my medical insurance would cover all costs and there would be no co-pay, so that financing is not an issue.

History: I’m 74 yrs. old and didn’t need prescription glasses until my late 50′s to the best of my memory.

Prior to acquiring insurance which afforded me access to any professionals that would accept it(now, most any and all), my only treatment option was at the local VA med. center.

The last eye exams I had there (3-4/5-6 yrs. ago to the best of my recollection) was told I had an evolving cataract condition, but that surgical removal was not yet indicated.

The “private” optometrist today told me that the surgery involved removal of my lens, and that synthetic ones would be implanted to replace them; and it was considered to be relatively minor surgery, that rarely were there ever any complications, And that they could refer me to a practicing surgeon.

Nevertheless, I’m greatly reluctant to undergo such a procedure. Have you had, or do you know anyone who has, this particular surgery performed? What’s your counsel?

Thanks to both you first two responders; but there seems to be some disparity between each of your respective counsel?
