cataracts symptoms and surgery?
I have recently been diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. the only symptoms I have is in the sun I cannot see unless I shield my eyes with my hands or wear a visor with a brim to block the direct sun then it is fine. And at night I do see the circles around lights. I want to put off the surgery as long as I can as I am going through something devastating Ijust had a major house fire and am living in a hotel until things get settled. I just do not want any more pain or trauma right now..Is it safe to wait? Did you have these same kind of symptoms? If you did have the surgery, how did it go and how do you see now? Medicare will be picking up this bill, does that mean they do it the cheapest way out? Thanks for all your help,
Can lazik surgery correct astigmatism and cataracts?
I had an eye exam 6 month ago and my doctor said I had the very beginning signs of a cataract on my right eye. I also have astigmatism in both eyes. Because of this, my glasses do not correct my vision as much as I would like and I cannot wear contacts. Since, I have bi-focals they tried putting a different lense in each eye but I could not see at all with the contacts.
Approximately how long does is take from the beginning stages of cataracts until Medicare will pay for the surgery? Also, is this same surgery the same as lazik that is suppose to correct our farsightedness or nearsightedness? Also, will Lazik surgery correct astigmatism? If so, would it be adviseable to go ahead and pay for my own surgery and have it alll corrected at once?
Cure for my dog’s cataracts?
My bichon frise is about 12 years old and is almost blind due to cataracts.
The local vet hospital said it would cost $6,000 to fix the problem!
Is there a way to get the surgery done without incurring that kind of expense?
Thanks.
Do you think that medical research will ever find a cure for cataracts?
HI there, so I have a 20 year old appaloosa and he has a cataract in his right eye causing partial blindness. A few months ago the vet came to give him a physical and told us that we could take him to a science research center about 2 hours away to see if they could treat it. This would cost us 4000 dollars, and there would be no garantee if of his vision would come back in the eye. For the time being he is perfectly fine, but my dream is to get him to have full vision like he once had.
I am wondering, do you think they will ever find a special surgery or cure for a cataract?
I know they can do it with dogs and people, and some other animals, why not horses?
Have you heard about any horses regaining vision?
thank you everyone!
Also should i take my horse to the reseach center to do the surgery? do you think he can get his vision back?
the thing is, i dont want his other eye to get a catartact or his already blind eye to get worse, the vet said that he could become fully blind in his right eye and then it can move to the other eye.
New puppy question?
I got a new puppy recently, the problem is my kitten hates him. She actually swatted at him, getting him in the eye, causing him to have secondary laucoma (punctured the eyeball, causing all the fluid to go behind his eye) he should be fine, is on tons of meds, and will probably have cataracts later in life (thankfully no surgery needed, but man the cost of emergancy pet care is outragous)
Now my question is, how can I introduce them, and without having to have them seperated all the time? I love them both, I do not want to get rid of either of them, and I dont feel declawing a cat is humane. Help?
The puppy is a lhasa apso, he isnt much bigger than the kitten, I dont think the cat feels physically threatened, more jelous that the dog is takin her mom away.
My father-in-law needs cataract surgery bad but he has no money and can’t get any help!?
I’m looking for some advice. My wife’s dad is an extremely hard working brick mason. He has owned his own business now for over 30 years. Since the economy has done what it’s done, he hasn’t worked steadily in a few years. He is a great brick mason! He went to the doctor and the doctor said he has very bad cataracts in both of his eyes and if he didn’t get them fixed soon, he could lose vision in both of his eyes. He doesn’t have any money and doesn’t have medicare or medicaid or anything, and no one wants to help. The cheapest cataract surgery we can find in Georgia is around $2000 per eye. We don’t know what to do. I’m hoping someone on this board can help guide us to something. Thanks so much!
He doesn’t have any kind of health insurance or anything.
My 5 yr old cat is losing his site to cataracts. I want to create a fund, “Eyes 4 Otis”. How do you do this?
We live in Brooklyn, NY. The veterinary hospital (Animal Medical Center) is in NYC. The cost of the surgery & one follow up visit is $4,700 to $4,900. I am currently on unemployment until Nov 8, 2009 & then that is it. Otis, my cat is also not currently employed. He is an amazingly social and sweet boy. He loves to sit in the hallway and wait to greet folks as they come out of the elevator. He loved to jump and catch toy mice in the air. His sight is not as good as it once was. He’s much more cautious walking around the apartment and carefully sniffs and reaches out his paw to make sure it is safe. I really want him to see again and be happy and healthy.
Otis has been diagnosed by Dr. Vanderwoort (the Ophthalmologist from the Animal Medical Center). I would love to help others in same situation as well being able to help Otis. I am looking for information on how to do this. Insurance will not cover any expense for a pre-existing condition.
My doggy can’t see anymore : [?
I have a dog who is suffering from cataracts and no longer can see. She on average has 8 more years to live and don’t want her to spend them blind. I was wondering because the surgery to remove the cataracts cost $4,000 and I can’t afford it me being a child & my parents don’t have the money to just fork out 4 grand. Do you think people would be willing to give donations to help pay for her procedure if I set up a web-site?
I really love my dog and want her to be able to see and have fun in her last years of life.
Does Cataracts hurt dogs?
Thank you everyone for your advice its all so great. Thanks.
I have a few questions about dog cataract surgery?
My dog is 12 years old. She has cataracts in both eyes, so we’re going to get the surgery to get rid of them. I don’t think they’re too far advanced yet, but we’re not going to let them get very far.
-Do we have to go to a dog ophthalmologist? [this is what I'm assuming, but I want to be certain]
-Her age won’t interfere with it, will it?
-How much does it cost? *
-What exactly do they do?
-How quick is recovery? What do we have to do until she’s finished recovering?
*The cost doesn’t matter, we’re willing to pay anything for her. I just want to get an idea of what we can expect.
I apologize if any of these seem dumb.
Do cataracts need to be “ripe” before Medicare will pay for surgery?
I know that most doctors say that you no longer need to wait until cataracts are “ripe” before having surgery, but does Medicare have any guidelines as to when they will pay for the surgery?
