I need cataract surgery, I am 43, work full time, live in Pa?

does anyone know of any programs to help with the cost?

Shi Tzu’s and cataract surgery – anyone have this done and know the cost?

I have a shi tzu (sorry spelling is wrong) and she has really bad clouds in one eye and the other one is getting cloudy too- I was wondering if anyone has ever had to have a Cataract Surgery done on a dog and what they paid their Vet for this Surgery ?
Please let me know if anyone knows this — please no smart remarks, or anything stupid for answers I love this dog and do not want her to loose her sight and do not want to put her down either – she is still young and has plenty of life left in her. She is part of my family, I have her and her brother, they are twins.

Anyone got a replacement lens for a cataract?

I was handed a sheet of paper yesterday at my Opthalamologists office and asked to check if I wanted a close up lens, or a distance lens, I just thought that they replaced the lens with a clear one and that my glasses took care of the distance and close up work.
And I am wondering if Medicare pays for the lens, and or the operation?
Doctor is pressing me to have lasik done the same time I have the cataract removed and at 73, I have worn glasses most of my life, and they are light, not heavy and I do not understand why the need for lasik at my age. Mostly I want to know has anyone received the close up lens, or the distance lens in place of the cataract and are they satisfied with the one they got..
I was given the post opt test where they do all kinds of test with measuring the eye, measuring the depth of the eyeball, and I was slightly nauseus anyhow, then they shove a paper in front of me and ask if I want distance, close up or crystaline lens. Now the crystaline lens is very expensive and I am on a fixed income, but I also understand it causes halo’s at night, glaring anytime, so I just want the usual tested lens. I understand if you go for the distance you will not be able to read well even with glasses, and if you go for the close up, your distance will be in the words of one person horrible, the doctor does not answer questions about the lens except he wants to do lasik and I know that at 73 that cfould be a problem and I do not want it. He lets his helpers answer these questions and I don’t feel comfortable with their answers. Also does medicare pay for the close up or distance.

Anyone know of a GREAT Toy Dog Optamologist?

I have a soon to be eight year old Shih-Tzu dog. She has Cataracts in both he eyes and has problems with vision. Does anyone know of an EXCELLENT Veterinarian Optamologist? I love my dog and want her to be better. Also, does anyone know the choice of procedures that they perform for this and how much does it usually cost? My vet doesn’t do cataracts and the place she referred me to no longer does this surgery on small dogs. I live in Massachusetts and the closet referral I have gotten yet is in New York. Please help!!!

Has anyone been diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis? I have that disorder and need support.?

I am 27 years old and it was discovered that I have Juvenile (then Rheumatoid) now Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) when I was 10 years old. It was realized due to the fact there was significant inflammation in my right eye. They did all sorts of tests on me and decided there was no cause for my disorder (funny the disorder came to be re-named idiopathic, which means “cause unknown”). I had some joint problems and a limited range of movement in my knees and hips, and the biggie was my eye. I had cataract surgery when I was 12 years old. I had had injections in my eye prior to that as well as oral steroids to try to combat the inflammations in my eye and other body parts. I struggled with my eye for a long time afterwards, and my bad joints have now just become a fact of life for me. But I have recently started having headaches behind and above my right eye, the same one that I had problems with. My left eye is unaffected, by the way. I decided to go to the ophthalmologist who had tracked my progress previously (it had been 5 years since I had seen an eye doctor due to the fact that I had no insurance). I figured that my headaches and further blurred vision was due to the proteins that stuck to my lens (called senechae..sp?) that was due to the inflammation. Unfortunately, the doc looked at my eye and said there is very little coverage of my lens with the senechae and that I had a “cupped optical nerve”. GLAUCOMA! It was caused by the “pressure” in my eye being continuously too high. Now I am really worried that I won’t ever be able to see again! I have seen a retinal specialist who has referred me to a glaucoma specialist, and also a rheumatologist to be placed on medication for my jointal arthritis. I am so terrified that they will find something wrong with me that no medicine can really help. Each visit with a specialist is going to cost me from $200 to $800, along with travel expenses because one one of the specialists is in my state. I have medicaid, but it does not cover my out of state expenses since the specialists don’t accept out of state medicaid. This is getting ridiculously expensive and scary. I just wish I had some support in all of this. So, has anyone else out there been through this? None of my friends understand it and my mom is the only one who comprehends what is going on because she has been there with me every step of the way. My husband is supportive in it, but he barely understands the common cold, much less a complex rare arthritic disorder… He is there with me, but I have no idea how to explain it all to him. One must understand the workings and parts of the eye before they can comprehend this disorder and what it is doing to me, and he did not excel in his health courses in school. I just want a friend who understands for support, who I can discuss this with. I need the hope and strength of a companion with a similar disorder or even the same one. Please contact me at therin_acean@yahoo.com if you would like to talk. This was written on 10-21-09 but I would respond years from now if I got a letter. Thank you for reading this. God Bless You!

Dog cataracts…are they removed by a regular Vet or an animal eye specialist? Any clue as to…?

…the cost?
Our 9 year old Dalmatian, Spike has lost a lot of his vision due to cataracts. Just wondering if anyone has had cataract surgery done for their pet, what kind of Vet does this surgery…and a ‘ball park’ cost. It’s a hard decision, at his age…and on our (fixed) budget…if we should have his vision restored.

If money was no object, it would be a ‘no brainer’…but we’re trying to determine life expectancy, a quality life for him..and what’s affordable for us.

Love to hear from anyone who’s had it done for their pet <:O)

Does anyone know of any kind of insurance that pays for multi-focal lens after cataract surgery?

Person all ready has blue cross/blue shield part a and b federal and medicare.

Hello has anyone had cataract surgery and used the ReStore, or ReZoom iol lenes?

I wanted to know how you got along with fhese lenes. Do you get a lot of glare? Did they help your near vision and also your far & intermeated vision? Do you think they were worth the extra cost?
Thanks. SAM

My husky is going blind and needs cataract surgery but we can’t afford it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My dog just turned one year old and we found out that he has juvenile / hereditary cataracts. The surgery would cost over $3000 and we can’t afford that right now. I have researched care credit as an option, but does anyone have any other suggestions? For a way to get the surgery done for a lower cost, or even for ways of raising money?
And please…no one comment about how we shouldn’t own a dog if we can’t afford it. When we bought him we were doing fine financially. And we are still doing ok, we just don’t have $3000 to drop right now.
thanks..
Here are pictures if you want to see him! He has his own myspace that I made for him.

And more specifics for those who were wondering..he is already blind in his left eye and will be blind in the right eye in a few months.

Thanks for all your help everyone! keep the suggestions coming :) I’m not giving up on my pup, we’re going to get him this surgery one way or another!
